"Dreggs"

Fathom Pictures' Live Action CD ROM Video game "Dreggs"
Cast and crew wrap after two weeks of blue screen production. Like most CD ROM video games, "Dreggs" will be completed on computers where all matte composites will be finished using Adobe Aftereffects. Unlike most other video games, "Dreggs" featured live action, interactive characters. Players could choose one of many characters and play the game from their "point of view." This required every scene to be shot from the POV of each character in that scene as well as a generic establishing shot from outside any character's POV. In order to breakaway from the "static" look of most video games, "Dreggs" Producer/Director Jon Kuri and DP Jim Fortier used handheld and moving camera shots for nearly every scene. Lighting was also used to supplement the look of each computer generated graphic background. With the advances in blue screen composite technology, it was possible to move beyond the "flat, even" lighting typically employed for blue screen work in the past. In it's place is a more dramatic lighting technique which will be further enhanced during the computer compositing phase. There are plans for a sequel to "Dreggs" sometime in the future.
